sunday news - week of august 29, 2010

TODAY IS OUR “DAY OF DEDICATION” FOR THE MINISTRY FOR TOMORROW: CONFIRMING OUR FAITH CAPITAL CAMPAIGN.  Advance pledges have reduced by half the total that we need to raise.  Now, we need $676,000 more in pledges to reach our $1.35 million goal.  Pledge cards for Confirming our Faith were mailed to all Christ Church members and friends on August 20.  This morning is our “Day of Dedication” for receiving your pledges. If you brought your pledge card this morning, please put it in the special basket so that it can be presented at the altar.

EGBERT OSPINA PRESENTATION THIS MORNING DURING COFFEE HOUR. Egbert Ospina, son of Reina Medrano, spent last year as a Rotary Exchange Student in Taiwan.  This was a great honor for Egbert, and his Christ Church family is very proud of his achievement.  He returned home to Aspen in July.  This morning Egbert will make a PowerPoint presentation about his year long experience as an American high schooler in Taiwan during the coffee hour between the services. The presentation will be made in Rowland-Davis Hall so that everyone can see it.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, ANDREW!  Wednesday, Sept. 1, marks the 8th anniversary of Andrew Todd becoming Music Director here at Christ Church.  We have been blessed to have Andrew share his gifts with us over the past eight years.  There are few Episcopal churches in Colorado who have as talented a pastoral musician as we do here in Aspen.

FIRST SUNDAY BREAKFAST NEXT SUNDAY.  Join us next Sunday, September 5th at 9 am (between the services) for our delicious breakfast.  Please come, and bring friends! If you would like to assist with set-up, cooking, or cleanup, please sign up this morning on the poster on the bulletin board outside Rowland-Davis Hall.

FAREWELL TO THOSE WHO ARE DEPARTING ASPEN THIS WEEK.   We are always sorry to see our summer visitors begin to go home at the end of August.  We ask God’s blessings on all of you who are heading away from Aspen this week, but we are delighted to know that some of you will be with us longer.  While you are back home, remember that you can keep up with Christ Church by viewing our website, www.christchurchaspen.org, or reading our weekly eNews.  If you do not currently receive the weekly eNews but would like to, please email your request to Kelly at kelly@christchurchaspen.org.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW NURSERY ATTENDANTS.  We welcome Connor and Caroline Boyd, who will be alternating as our nursery attendants on Sunday mornings.  The sisters are the daughters of Judy Boyd, who often caters our church special events.  Connor is a senior at Aspen High School and Caroline is a sophomore.

“FAITH AND FILM” CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY.  On Wed., Sept. 1, at 6:00 we will watch and discuss the 2009 film, Up. Up follows the uplifting tale of 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. Their journey to a lost world, where they encounter some strange, exotic and surprising characters, is filled with humor, emotion and wildly imaginative adventure.  It also communicates a very profound message.  It is suitable for adults and children alike.  Sign up for the Sept. 1 Faith and Film evening on the poster outside Rowland-Davis Hall.  It’s $5 for the movie and pizza.  If you like, you can also bring a salad to share.  The final Faith and Film evening of this season will be on Sept. 15.

please recycle your bulletin and news page.  As always, feel free to take your bulletin and/or this News Page home with you.  However, if you don’t, please place it on the credenza in the narthex on your way out, or in the new BLUE recycle bin next to the large trash can in Rowland-Davis Hall.  Thank you for helping us save trees!

FR. BRUCE’S MONDAY STUDY OF THE GOSPEL OF LUKE resumes on Monday, Sept. 13, at 3:30pm in Rowland-Davis Hall.  This is a year-long study which will continue until next summer, with various breaks.

ALTAR FLOWERS.  If you would like to make an offering for altar flowers, please sign up on the bulletin board outside of Rowland-Davis Hall.  Checks should be made payable to “Christ Church” with “Flower Fund” in the memo line.
